Krizan Drives in Four as 'Wolves Down Baysox

The SeaWolves scored early and often on Wednesday afternoon at Jerry Uht Park as they took down the Bowie Baysox, 7-1 in the series finale.

Erie jumped ahead in the first against Baysox starter Joe Gunkel. With one out and Harold Castro on first, Alberto Gonzalez singled putting two on base for Dean Green. Green grounded to second and on a Garabez Rosa error, Castro scored for a 1-0 lead. Jason Krizan followed with an RBI single, plating Gonzalez for a 2-0 lead.

In the second, the SeaWolves added to their lead. Drew Longley reached on an error with one out. With two outs, Castro singled home Longley for a 3-0 lead. The 'Wolves then loaded the bases on a Gonzalez single and Green walk. Krizan continued his big day at the plate with a bases-clearing triple making it 7-0 Erie.

Bowie got on the board in the top of the fourth against SeaWolves starter Tommy Collier. Trey Mancnini, Garabez Rosa and Corban Joseph each singled, loading the bases. With one out, Adrian Marin singled home Mancini making it a 7-1 game. Collier got out of the inning with a double play ball and quieted the Bowie threat.

The Baysox threatened in the seventh against Erie reliever Matt Crouse when they loaded the bases with two outs. Ruben Alaniz entered the game and struck out Rosa, ending the threat.

Alaniz tossed a scoreless eighth and Paul Voelker threw a scoreless ninth, preserving the Erie win.

Collier (1-2) earned his first win of the season. He allowed a run on seven hits with a walk and four strikeouts in a season-high five innings of work.

Gunkel (0-3) took the loss for Bowie allowing seven runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings of work.

The SeaWolves hit the road and head to Binghamton, beginning a four-game series with the Mets on Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. RHP Brennan Smith (0-1, 14.04 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP Andrew Barbosa (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
