Fightins lose on walk-off in extras

The Fightin Phils (9-5) fell victim to a walk-off home run by Ricky Oropesa off Tom Windle in the bottom of the 11th inning that gave the Richmond Flying Squirrels (5-9) a 3-2 win. Ricardo Pinto turned in his best start of the season allowing one unearned run through seven innings.

Richmond got on the board in the bottom of the second inning. Ryder Jones scored on a fielding error by Jesmuel Valentin that gave Richmond a 1-0 lead. Jake Fox would give Reading a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning off Flying Squirrels starter Adalberto Mejia. He hit a two-run after Angelo Mora hit a one-out double.

Joely Rodriguez took the mound in the bottom of the eighth inning for Reading. He gave up a single, a walk and a sacrifice bunt before intentially walking Chrsitain Arroyo to load the bases. Yacksel Rios entered the game to pitch to Austin Slater. Rios walked Slater with the bases loaded that tied the game at 2-2. Jeremy Bleich got Oropesa to ground into an inning-ending double play.

Bleich pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief with two strikeouts. Rhys Hoskins extended his hitting streak to ten games with a single in the top of the second inning.

The Fightin Phils are off on Thursday and return to action on Friday night against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in Baseballtown. First pitch is at 7:05 pm.
