B-Mets Staff & Morris to Receive NL Rings
April 20, 2016 - Eastern League (EL1)
Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - New York Mets COO Jeff Wilpon and General Manager Sandy Alderson will be at NYSEG Stadium on Tuesday, April 26 to present the Binghamton Mets coaching staff and reliever Akeel Morris with 2015 National League Championship rings. Manager Pedro Lopez, pitching coach Glenn Abbott, hitting coach Luis Natera, strength and conditioning coach Dane Inderrieden and Morris will receive their rings in a ceremony prior to the B-Mets 6:35 PM game against the Portland Sea Dogs.
"Jeff and I are thrilled to be in Binghamton to present rings to the coaching staff in commemoration of our historic 2015 season," said Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson. "The B-Mets staff are part of our family we depend on as an organization and played a large role in helping us reach new heights."
Alderson will be available for comment with the media following the ceremony.
While all Minor League affiliate coaching staffs receive championship rings, the B-Mets had an especially strong hand in pushing the Mets to the National League pennant. Over the course of the postseason, the Mets had 19 former B-Mets on the roster, including 11 that passed through Binghamton under Lopez's watch.
The Mets swept the Chicago Cubs in October to claim their first National League pennant since 2000. Former B-Met Jeurys Familia registered the final out, punching the Mets' ticket to the World Series.
Morris, the B-Mets current closer, was summoned from the St. Lucie Mets (High-A) in June last year to make his Major League debut against the Toronto Blue Jays. After one appearance, he was sent to Binghamton where he spent the rest of the season.
Deb Iwanow, the B-Mets athletic trainer in 2015, will receive her championship ring in Las Vegas where she currently serves as the 51's athletic trainer.
The Binghamton Mets open a week-long homestand on Thursday at 6:35 PM against the Erie SeaWolves. Fans can purchase tickets in person at NYSEG Stadium, online at www.bmets.com or by phone at (607) 723-METS.
