Kozak scores winner for third straight game

November 10, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

The Mississippi RiverKings rode the momentum of last night's third period and shutout the Oklahoma City Blazers tonight 3-0 at the DeSoto Civic Center.

Rick Kozak scored just 31 seconds into the final period last night to give the RiverKings a 3-2 lead on their way to a 4-2 victory. Tonight, his breakaway goal 10:48 into the first period gave Sebastien Centomo all the offense he needed. For Kozak, it was his fifth goal of the season. However, it also ended up as his fourth game-winning goal of the year, his third game-winner in as many games for the RiverKings, and his 19th goal in 27 games with the club going back to last season.

Kozak's goal came after the Blazers took it to the RiverKings in the early going. Centomo made several saves while weathering the Blazers' desperate onslaught. But just like he did the previous night in the third period, when Kozak scored tonight in the first period, he shattered the Blazers' confidence.

And that's when the RiverKings took care of business. Ryan Held and Chad Woollard scored on the power play before the end of the first to give the 'Kings a 3-0 lead after 20. Like Kozak, both men scored their fifth goals of the campaign.

The game featured seven fights, with three of them coming in the final minute of the second period. Justin Sawyer led the way with 22 penalty minutes for the Blazers. Kozak had 14 minutes in penalties for the RiverKings, but the assist that would have given him the Gordie Howe Hat Trick eluded him.

Centomo stopped 36 shots for his first shutout of the year. Jason Wolfe made 24 saves for the Blazers.

The RiverKings improved to 7-2. The Blazers fell to 4-6.

The RiverKings visit the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Tuesday night at 7:05.
