Bucks Win Streak Snapped At 10: Lose 3-2 To Youngstown

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Youngstown Steelhounds 3-2 in front of 5,106 fans Saturday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The loss ends the Bucks season-opening 10-game winning streak, and keeps them tied in the CHL record books for most consecutive wins to start a season with 10. Laredo will now share the league record with the 2002-03 Austin Ice Bats, and the 1996-97 New Mexico Scorpions of the then WPHL

Youngstown took a early 1-0 lead seven minutes in as Bryan Lachapelle scored his first goal of the season. The Steelhounds took a 2-0 lead at the 11:22 mark when Petr Pohl knocked in his team-leading seventh goal of the season past Bucks goaltender Dustin Traylen.

Laredo cut the Youngstown lead in half to 2-1 when Igor Agarunov scored his first goal of the season, off of a slap shot from just outside the left circle. Corey Courchene and Matt Summers picked up assists on the goal.

The Second period was scoreless as neither team lit the lamp. The Bucks killed off three Steelhounds power-plays in the period, including a five-on-three early on. Youngstown outshot Laredo 11-7 in the period.

Youngstown took a 3-1 lead at the 5:55 mark of the third period when Kevin Jarmin scored from the left side off of a two-on-one break.

The Bucks battled back to make it 3-2 at the 14:46 mark of the third period when Chris Korchinski snuck his seventh goal of the season past ‘Hounds goaltender Andy Franck. Rane Carnegie picked up an assist on the goal.

Laredo pulled Traylen for the final 58 seconds to try and tie the game with an empty net, but the ‘Hounds held on for the win improving to 9-0-1 on their season-opening 14-game road trip.

Traylen took the loss in net for Laredo, making 25 saves. Franck improved to 8-0-1 in the Youngstown net.

The Bucks will host division rival Rio Grande Valley Tuesday morning at 11am in the annual kid's day game sponsored by McDonalds. Ronald McDonald will be on hand to entertain the crowd during intermissions.
