Sundogs Snap Scorpions Winning Streak

[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-The Sundogs came to New Mexico and beat the Scorpions 4-2 Saturday night. The loss snapped the Scorps season high three game winning streak.

Arizona wasted no time getting on the board. With an early power play, the Sundogs moved the puck around fast and Alex Leavitt put it to the back of the net 46-seconds into the game.

The Scorpions capitalized on their first power play. With a two-man advantage Aaron MacInnis' slap shot lit the lamp at the 5:52 mark.

The second period started almost exactly as the opening frame. The sundogs went to the power play and David Schlemko converted giving the Sundogs a 2-1 lead.

Arizona extended their lead when Dusty Collins scored his third goal of the season. As the Scorps' faced their first two-goal deficit of the night, they wasted little time in grabbing momentum back. Konrad Reeder picked up a rebound and scored his sixth goal of the year making it a 3-2 game.

A late empty net goal by Leavitt sealed the win for the Sundogs with 57-seconds remaining. It was the tenth time in 15 head-to-head meetings the road team has won.

The Scorpions are back on home ice Friday night when Amarillo visits the Santa Ana Star Center. It will be Radio Disney Night with Disney Prize Packs given to the first 300 people through the gates. New Mexico will also be at home next Sunday afternoon for a 3:15 p.m. affair against Arizona. Following the game there will be a skate with the Scorpions.
