Five different Jackalopes scored as the Rayz fell to the Jacks 5-1 at the Ector County Coliseum in game two of their five-game road trip. The Rayz fell to 2-7-1 on the year and will continue their road trip next Saturday in Rio Grande Valley. Rayz individual games tickets are currently available. Odessa shot out of the gates with a three goal outpouring in the first period. Dominic Leveille got the scoring started at 2:43 when he tapped his own rebound out of mid air and past Jason Tapp for a 1-0 Jacks lead. Odessa increased to 2-0 when Mario Joly's slapshot from the blue line grazed Tapp's glove and scored at 8:46. The Jackalopes made it 3-0 with a late power play goal as Nathan Ward scored from between the circles at 19:39. The Rayz outshot the Jacks 13-11, but went to the first intermission trailing by three.
The Rayz dominated the second period, putting on nine shots in the first five minutes of the frame. However, countless shots and scoring chances were turned aside by Mike Gorman and the teams were scoreless through most of the frame. The Rayz finally broke through in the final minute when Adam Powell redirected a shot from Geno Parrish at 19:22 while the Rayz were on the power play. The goal stopped a scoreless drought of 27 straight unconverted power plays for the Rayz. Corpus Christi outshot the Jacks 16-14 in period and looked to come from behind in the third period.
The Jacks added two in the third period to complete the victory. John Kozoriz tallied on the power play at 4:03 and Mike MacDonald scored a shorthanded goal at 15:10 to cap the scoring. The Jacks outshot the Rayz 13-10 in the final frame.
Tapp made 33 saves on 38 shots and fell to 2-5-1 taking the loss. Gorman improved to 4-3 with the win, turning aside 38 of 39 shots. The Rayz went 1-7 on the power play and the Jacks were 2-5. The Rayz outshot the Jacks 39-38. The Jacks have now won six of their last seven games. The Rayz will look ahead to next week and the Rio Grande for their first road victory of the year.
