Kowalski named ECHL goalie of the week

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades goaltender Craig Kowalski has been named the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Dec. 18-24, the league announced today. The award is the first for an Everblade goaltender this year.
Selected in the eighth round (235th overall) by Carolina in the 2000 National Hockey League Entry Draft and under NHL contract to the Hurricanes, the 25-year-old made 40 saves to record the team's first shutout of the season with a 4-0 win against South Carolina on Dec. 23 in his only start during the week.
Kowalski was just six saves off of his season high of 46, which he made on Nov. 11 against Columbia in a 3-1 win. The win improved the Clinton Township, Mich. native's record to 10-5-0 in his 15 games this season, and the shutout dropped his goals against average to 2.34, while raising his save percentage to .927. Kowalski enters this week's action currently riding a personal season-high four-game winning streak dating back to December 9.
Now in his third season with the Everblades, Kowalski has posted a 35-17-6 record in 60 career games with Florida. In addition to playing in Southwest Florida, Kowalski has also seen action with Lowell of the American Hockey League during his career. Overall in his three-year professional career, he has posted a record of 41-26-11 in 80 games. Prior to joining the professional ranks Kowalski played four seasons with Northern Michigan University where he posted a record of 68-49-12 with a 2.69 GAA in 132 career games.
The Florida Everblades, proud affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes and the Florida Panthers, return to action tonight when they take on the Texas Wildctters from Ford Arena in Beaumont, TX at 8:30 p.m. The Everblades' next home game is Friday, January 5 vs. the Charlotte Checkers.
