Friday, December 29, 2006 -- 7:05 p.m.

game one of a three-game series

LAST GAME : Victoria finished their 14-day, six-game road trip with a double feature in Phoenix at the U.S. Airways Center. The Salmon Kings struck first as Milan Gajic, who returned from a stint in the AHL with Manitoba, tallied a powerplay goal. The Roadrunners answered with a powerplay goal of their own before the end of the first period.

Four goals were scored in the second period to decide the game.

Lance Monych gave Phoenix the 2-1 lead at 5:30 into the second stanza, and Ryan Wade evened the score on a Salmon Kings powerplay. Defenseman Alexandre Rouleau gave Phoenix the 3-2 edge with another powerplay marker and Todd Jackson posted the insurance goal with 37 seconds remaining in the second period. The Roadrunners deflected numerous Salmon Kings strikes in the third period and clutched the win.

MORRISON AT THE HELM : The Salmon Kings relieved Tony MacAulay of his head coaching duties and Mark Morrison was named as the new Head Coach on Dec 28.... Morrison joined the Salmon Kings last season as assistant coach....spent 12 years as Head Coach and General Manager of the Fife Flyers in the British National League (BNL)......was a three-time recipient of the BNL Player and Coach of the Year Awards......began his career in 1979 with the Victoria Cougars of the Western Hockey League (WHL) and collected 394 points in 191 games.... was drafted 51st overall by the New York Rangers in the 1981 NHL entry draft ....has played alongside National Hockey League stars Mario Lemieux, Steve Yzerman, Dave Andreychuk, Grant Fuhr, Paul Cyr, and Russ and Geoff Courtnall....earned a gold medal and was named the tournament co-Most Valuable Player with Team Canada in the 1982-83 World Junior Championships... play 3 years internationally for the Canadian Olympic Team.
