
Komets Move Into Second Place in the West

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets registered a 1-0-1 record for the 2 games played last week and earned 3 points to move into 2nd place in the Western Division for the first time since the start of the season. The Komets are even with division rival Quad City with 47 points after 42 games of the 2005-06 campaign.
Friday, the Komets upended the River Otters at Missouri 5-2 and Saturday the Komets dropped a 3-2 shootout bid to the visiting Elmira Jackals. The Komets are 9-3-1 in the last 13 outings and are unbeaten in regulation 3 straight.
Flags get it started Wednesday.....the Komets start a run of 12 games in 19 nights with 4 games in 5 nights this week. The action starts Wednesday at 7:30pm with the first visit of the season to Fort Wayne by the Port Huron Flags. It's the first time Port Huron has played in Fort Wayne as the Flags since April 1, 1981 when the Flags of the IHL turned back the Komets 5-3. Former Komet Paul Willett brings his Flags to Fort Wayne for the first of 3 visits this season. The Komets hold a 1-0-1 series edge after whitewashing the Flags at Port Huron 4-0 Jan. 6 in their last meeting. The Flags are 2-1-0 in their last 3 games and are 2-10-0 in their last 12. Port Huron is coming off a 9-1 loss at Muskegon Saturday after clipping Muskegon 5-4 in a home shootout victory Friday night.
Wing's first visit Friday.....Friday at 8pm the Komets will host the Kalamazoo Wings for the first time this year. After completing all 4 trips of the season to Kalamazoo, the Komets will now host the Wings for the next 3 meetings of the season. The Komets are 2-2-0 on the year against Kalamazoo and have won the last 2 meetings. The Wings, 7 points behind first-place Muskegon in the Central Division, are 3-1-1 in their last 5 games and 5-2-3 in their last 10. Center Tyler Rennette leads the Wings with 34 assists and 55 points while Joel Martin leads UHL goaltenders with a 21-5-4 record and 2.07 goals-against average.
Komets skate at Port Huron Saturday.....the Komets travel to Port Huron to face the Flags at McMorran Arena at 7:30pm for the only road game of the week. It will be the 3rd of 4 trips to Port Huron this season. The Flags hold a 13-10-1 record at home this year going into this week's games while registering a 5-15-3 record on the road. Last year the Komets made 3 trips to Port Huron and posted a 6-0-0 overall record against Port Huron for the year.
Sunday visit by the Mechanics.....Motor City makes it's 3rd consecutive visit to Fort Wayne this Sunday at 5pm. The Komets hold a 2-0-0 series lead against the Mechanics after a 3-2 shootout win in Fort Wayne Jan. 15. It will be the final visit by the Mechanics before the Komets skate 3 games at Motor City beginning with the first trip of the season to Detroit Sunday, Feb. 26. This week the Mechanics will host Rockford Wednesday, Muskegon Friday and Flint Saturday before traveling to Fort Wayne Sunday. Motor City appears to be in the battle for a 7th or 8th playoff position. The Mechanics have 49 points in the Central Division and trail 2nd-place Kalamazoo by 16 points after 47 games.

The A's have it.....a sold-out crowd of 10,462 attended Saturday's game against Elmira for the annual Comcast Report Card Night. Students with "A" or "A equivalent" proof received a free ticket to the Komet game compliments Comcast Cable of Fort Wayne. In addition, Comcast donated $7500.00 to the Literacy Alliance in honor of all "A" students in attendance.
Milestones.....Matt Hunter (LW) skated his 100th pro (all UHL) game Friday 2/3 at Missouri.....Greg Puhalski has 499 career wins as a head coach.....Rob Guinn (D) has 99 UHL assists.....Kelly Miller (C) has appeared in 299 pro games.
Komets on the air.....Friday, Saturday and Sunday Komet games this week are slated to air with Bob Chase calling the action radio-rinkside in his 53rd consecutive season behind the Komet microphone. Fans can join Bob for the Sprint P.C.S. Pregame Show 15 minutes prior to the faceoff of each Komet game broadcast. Wednesday's game will not be broadcast due to conflicting programming. Games Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be broadcast on WOWO Radio AM 1190. Games broadcast on radio can also be heard worldwide on the internet at www.komets.com at Comcast KometCast.

Season Ticket Exchange Night Wednesday.....the third season ticket exchange night is set for this Wednesday, Feb. 8, when the Komets host the Port Huron Flags at 7:30pm. Komet season ticket holders can exchange unused tickets from previously scheduled Komet home games this season for tickets to this Wednesday's Komet home game. Tickets can be exchanged at the Coliseum Ticket Office.
Sunday skate with the Komets.....fans are encouraged to bring their skates again to the game this Sunday when the Komets host the Motor City Mechanics at 5pm. Following all Sunday games during the regular season, Komet fans can enjoy a free skate, courtesy of Wendy's.
Komet sightings.....Tuesday, Feb. 7, Komet fans are invited to join winger Jonathan Goodwin and center Andrew Luciuk at Arby's at 5755 Falls Drive from 5:30pm-7pm.
This Thursday, Feb. 9, Komet captain Colin Chaulk, All-Star defenseman Guy Dupuis, Komet's point leader P.C. Drouin and Komet mascot Icy Eagle will meet and greet fans from 4-6pm at the new Sprint PCS Store, 10458 Maysville Road (Chapel Ridge Shopping Center).
