
Mallards Visit Rockford and Host Roanoke This Week

Moline, IL-The Mallards hit the ice twice this week as the team plays their 46th and 47th games of the season. The team heads to Rockford on Friday night for the back end of a home-and-home series with the Rockford IceHogs. On Saturday, the Mallards are back at The MARK to host Roanoke in the Valley Vipers' only visit of the 2005-06 season.
Last week, the Mallards went 0-2-0 with a 5-3 loss to Elmira on Friday followed by a 3-2 loss to Rockford on Saturday. The Mallards have lost each of their last four, their longest losing streak of the season.
Saturday night's game featured the Mallards annual jersey auction. The team raised $42,460 for Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus. More funds will be raised this week as the team hosts an on-line auction for Head Coach Brian Curran's race-car themed jersey. Military personnel receive special ticket discounts on this night. It's also a benefit for Carter Yackley. The Geneseo youth was born with a life-threatening heart condition and the Mallards are working to raise funds for his medical care. The Mallards are celebrating Valentine's Day by hosting Singles Night. Sure Thing Speed Dates is giving away pucks to the first 1,000 ladies in attendance. The first 750 ladies will receive a ½ karat "diamond" from Diamond Gallery. One lucky lady will receive a real diamond while the other 749 will receive a cubic zirconium copy. Fans will be able to have their diamonds checked at the Diamond Gallery at 2222 East 53 Street in Davenport. Genesis will be giving away T-Shirts as well.
Season Ticket Holder Buddy Nights
Mallards "Buddy Nights" return on February 24th vs. Kalamazoo. On these special nights, season ticket holders will receive a voucher for one free upper bowl ticket for every ticket they hold. These seats can be upgraded to lower bowl tickets for just $5. For those that haven't picked up their vouchers, they are still available at the Maroon Mortgage Information Table during home games or at The Mallards Nest.

The Mallards and Hogs wrap up a home-and-home series with a Friday night meeting in Rockford. An intense season series has seen the Mallards go 3-5-0 vs. the Hogs. Rockford outlasted the Mallards 3-2 in an intensely played affair on Saturday night in the front end of the home-and-home series.

The Valley Vipers visit The MARK for the first time ever on Saturday night. The Vipers stand fifth in the Eastern Division entering the week with a record of 12-26-5.

The Maroon Mortgage Pre-Game Show is on the air 25 minutes prior to face-off on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230. During the intermissions, stay tuned for the Swiss Valley Farms Intermission Report. After the game, the All-State Insurance Christy Cox Post-Game Show will air.

Friday, February 3rd-Elmira 5 at Quad City 3
The visiting Elmira Jackals beat the Mallards 5-3 at The MARK on Friday night. In the loss, Patrick Nadeau scored the 200th goal of his professional career. Rookie Rafal Martynowski and Anthony Blumer also recorded goals in the game. Former Mallard Jason Sessa netted a pair of goals for the Jackals including the game winner. In the first, the teams traded goals as Nadeau scored 91 seconds in to give the Mallards a 1-0 lead. Elmira's Kevin Cooper answered with his 21st of the season at 10:12 of the period. A wild second period featured four goals as the lead flip flopped before the second frame ended tied at three. Josh Tataryn of Elmira kicked off the scoring with his 14th of the year just 55 seconds into the period. Rafal Martynowski answered on a Mallards power play to tie the game at two. The goal was Martynowski's 12th of the year and his second in the last two games. The Mallards took the lead for the first time nine minutes later when Anthony Blumer recorded a shorthanded tally to stake the Mallards to a 3-2 lead. The goal was Blumer's 14th of the year, good for the lead amongst Mallards rookies. Former Mallard Jason Sessa recorded his first goal of the night with 1:25 left in the middle period. Sessa's marker was his 10th in 22 games with the Jackals this year. In the third, Sessa netted the game winner just 4:48 into the frame. Chris Chaput scored his 16th at the 8:00 mark to provide insurance in the 5-3 win. With the loss, the Mallards fall to 21-18-5 on the year.
Saturday, February 4th-Rockford 3 at Quad City 2
An intense rivalry continued at The MARK as the Rockford IceHogs defeated the Quad City Mallards 3-2 on Saturday night. Tom Galvin and Chad Woollard scored in the loss. With the setback, the Mallards fell to 21-19-5 on the season. The Mallards jumped on the board first with a power-play goal from Tom Galvin, his fourth of the year. The Hogs drew even just four minutes later when former Mallard Rob Voltera rifled a shot over the glove of Jason Tapp for his first of the season. Rockford took a 2-1 lead into the intermission on a power-play tally from Yannick Tifu. Tifu netted his second of the night and 14th of the season on the man-advantage midway through the second to extend the Hog lead to 3-1. In the third, the Mallards made a courageous comeback, but fell just one goal short. Chad Woollard one-timed a shot past Hogs' netminder Michel Robinson for his team-leading 25th goal of the year.
Player of the Week
Tom Galvin is the Mallards nominee for UHL Player of the Week. He is the only Mallard to score in both games this weekend as he recorded an assist on Friday vs. Elmira and netted his fourth goal of the year on Saturday vs. Rockford.
Goalie of the Week
Terry Friesen is the Mallards nominee for UHL Goaltender of the Week. He stopped all 11 shots he faced in a relief role on Saturday vs. Rockford.
