Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release
ROANOKE, VA - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), announced today that they have relieved Jim Wiley of his duties as head coach and director of hockey operations.
Assistant Coach and former professional hockey player Daniel Berthiaume was named interim Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, and has resumed the position as of today. Berthiaume will be working closely with Vipers Director of Player Personnel Gary Cook, who is based out of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Cook has assisted the organization by handling player personnel for four seasons.
"Jim Wiley did a tremendous job of putting together a team for us in such a short amount of time," said team owner and Governor Kristen Dixon. "He is an outstanding coach, however, as an organization we have decided to go in a different direction. We wish only the best for Jim and his family."
The Vipers stand in fifth place of the UHL Eastern Division with a 12-26-5 record and 29 points so far this season. The team will play its first game under the direction of Berthiaume in St. Charles, Missouri on Friday night as they face the Missouri River Otters for the first time this season. The Vipers will return home to host their in-state rival the Richmond RiverDogs on Wednesday, February 15th at 7:05p.m. Call the Vipers office today at (540) 345-PUCK (7825) to get your tickets!
