Fort Wayne, IN — The Komets completed the 2004-05 regular season taking 3 wins from a 4-game road tour to finish the year with a 51-24-5 record, 107 points and the Western Conference title. For the 2nd straight season the Komets topped the 100 point mark. The Komets finished the 80-game campaign with 107 points (51-24-5). Last year the Komets reached a Fort Wayne UHL best 112 points (53-17-6). 2004-05 was the 11th 100+ point season for the 53-year-old Fort Wayne franchise (9 IHL, 2 UHL).

The season-ending road swing began with a 4-3 win at Kansas City Wednesday night. Friday the Komets clipped the River Otters in Missouri 2-1. Saturday the Komets doubled-up the Mallards at Quad City 4-2 and Sunday the Komets completed the regular season slate with an 8-1 setback in Kansas City.

The Komets earned 2nd seed in the UHL overall and will face the Missouri River Otters in a best-of-seven first round playoff series beginning this Friday night, April 15, at 7:30pm at the Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne. The series will run under a 2-2-1-1-1 format with game 2 in Fort Wayne Sunday, April 17 at 7pm. The series switches to Missouri for games 3 and 4 at the Savvis Center in St. Louis. Game 3 is slated for Tuesday, April 19, at 7pm and Game 4 will be Wednesday, April 20 at 7pm. Game 5, if necessary, will be played in Fort Wayne Saturday, April 23 at 7:30pm. Game 6, if necessary, will be held at Missouri at the Savvis Center Sunday, April 24 at 5pm. The Savvis Center is the home of the St. Louis Blues and will be used due to unavailability of The Family Arena in St. Charles. Game 7, if necessary, will be held at the coliseum in Fort Wayne Tuesday, April 26 at 7:30pm.

The Komets were 5-3-2 in 10 meetings this season against Missouri (Fort Wayne vs Missouri season stats accompany this release). It will be the 2nd time the Komets have faced Missouri in post-season play. The Komets took the Otters 3 games to 1 in a best-of-five first round series in the 2001 UHL playoffs.

Regular business hours are 9am-5pm Monday thru Friday. Free Komet Yard Signs are available to season ticket holders picking up playoff tickets.

Komet season leaders: Colin Chaulk (C) 73a (league high, career best), 92pts (career best).....Sean Venedam (LW) 39 goals (career best), 307 shots.....Jonathan Goodwin (RW) 8 game winning goals (T-league high, UHL rookie best), 11 power play goals.....Troy Neumeier (D) +47 (league high, and a new record for the best +/- of a Komet player since joining the UHL).....Jeff Worlton (RW) 372 penalty minutes (new record for penaly minutes by a Komet player in a UHL season)......Kevin St. Pierre 2.30 goals-against average and .922 spct.

Venedam hits 500.....Sean Venedam (LW) registered his 500th career point with an assist on P.C. Drouin's game winning goal Friday at Missouri.

Guinn the Ironman.....defenseman Rob Guinn was the only Komet player to have skated all 80 Komet games.

Kostichka gets first pro mark.....Adam Kostichka (LW), the Komet's 2nd round draft pick in the UHL's North American Amateur Draft, scored his first pro goal and point Saturday night in the Komet's 4-2 win at Quad City. Kostichka will remain as an active player on the Komet's final roster.

Wiggins, Campbell released.....winger Mike Wiggins has been released from his ATO (amateur tryout agreement) with the Komets and will be returning to school. The skater will not be available to the Komets for the post-season. Wiggins, 25, skated 6 games scoring 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points in his professional debut since completing his 3rd season with the University of Wisconsin, Superior in the NCHA. Also not making the Komet final roster is goaltender Cory Campbell. Campbell was released after filling the void while veteran netminder Kevin St. Pierre was on the injured reserve list. Campbell appeared in one game, Sunday, April 3, earning a 3-1 win over the visiting Adirondack Frostbite.

Komets keep 4 Amateur Draft Picks on final roster.....each UHL team is allowed to keep 4 of their picks from the UHL's North American Amatuer Draft on their final roster which was submitted to the league today. The 4 picks retained by the Komets were Chris Busby, Adam Kostichka, Eric Werner and David Moss.
