Kompon Named UHL Player of the Week

The United Hockey League announced today that Mallards forward Mike Kompon is the league's Sher-Wood Player of the Week. Kompon recorded nine points (seven goals and two assists) in four games last week to finish the season with 90 points on 39 goals and 51 assists. He is the highest scoring Mallards rookie since Jason Ulmer recorded 97 points (26 goals and 71 assists) in 2000-01.

On Wednesday, Kompon kicked off the week with a pair of goals and an assist vs. Rockford. Two nights later in Flint, the Mallards rookie tallied two goals in a Mallards victory. After being held scoreless vs. Fort Wayne on Saturday, Kompon rebounded with a hat trick and an assist on Sunday vs. Flint at The MARK.

On the season, Kompon finishes the campaign leading UHL rookies in goals, assists and points. He also led the Mallards in each of those statistical categories. The rookie from Thunder Bay, Ontario wraps up the year as the 10th highest scorer in the United League.

The Mallards kick off the 2005 UHL Playoffs on Friday in Muskegon. Game time is 6:30 p.m. central time with the First Capital Financial Pre-Game Show set for 6:05 p.m. on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230. On Saturday, the Mallards play Game Two in Muskegon at 6:30 p.m. central time.

The Mallards make their home playoff debut on Tuesday, April 19th in Game Three of their first round series with Muskegon. Game time is 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available at The MARK box office or via phone at (563) 326-1111.
