Afr Thanks Fans For Tremendous Support
April 11, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Elmira Jackals News Release
Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals owner Dr. Mostafa Afr issued a statement today thanking the Jackals fans and the community for its unwavering support through a very trying 2004-2005 hockey season.
"I want to thank all the Jackals fans for their incredible level of support for this team that never let up throughout this difficult year for us on the ice. You are undoubtedly the best fans in the UHL.
I apologize for the losses that we sustained, and while I realize that not every team can make the playoffs every year, our record is unacceptable, especially in light of our past success. We find ourselves in uncharted waters because this situation is something that has never happened to this franchise. But I can promise all the fans that we will have a great season in 2005-2006, as this organization is 100% committed to making every step necessary to ensure a successful campaign next year.
I want to recognize the unmatched level of support that we have from the community. The city of Elmira and the entire Twin Tiers area has really embraced the team and the facility. Soon we will be embarking in some drastic philosophical changes with how the Arena is managed in efforts to be more responsive to the community's needs. We hope to provide better Entertainment and programs that will liven up the overall draw and attraction to the First Arena. In 2004-2005 we saw a big improvement with our Recreation Rink and instructional programs. It is my hope that we can continue this upward trend into next year, constantly evolving for the betterment of the community."
Monday's Noon Press Conference was cancelled due to issues still pending between Afr, SMG and the new management group Centerplate.
