
Quad City's Kompon and Motor City's Branch earn weekly honors

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Monday that Quad City Mallards forward Mike Kompon has been named Sher-Wood Player of the Week and Motor City Mechanics goaltender Rod Branch has been named Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 10th, 2005.
Kompon finished the week with nine points (7g, 2a) and a plus-two rating in four games. On Wednesday, he tallied three points (2g, 1a) in Quad City's 5-2 win vs. Rockford. In Friday's 4-3 shootout win vs. Flint, he notched two goals. Kompon netted a hat trick (3g), including the game-winner, in the 5-3 victory vs. Flint on Sunday. He also added an assist for his third multi-point game of the week. The 23-year-old Thunder Bay, Ontario native led all UHL rookies in scoring this season with 90 points (39g, 51a) and finished tenth amongst all UHL scorers. It is the first UHL weekly honor for Kompon this season.
Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Adirondack right wing Greg Koehler, Danbury forward Jay Murphy, Elmira center Eddy Lowe, Flint right wing Bobby Reynolds, Fort Wayne right wing Jonathan Goodwin, Kalamazoo left wing Sean Starke, Kansas City left wing Jason Ruff, Missouri center Ryan Johnson, Motor City right wing Joe Burton, Muskegon right wing Robin Bouchard, Port Huron left wing David Beauregard, Richmond right wing David Hymovitz, and Rockford right wing Bruce Watson.
Branch finished the week with a 4-0-0 record, a 1.25 GAA, and a .959 save percentage. On Wednesday, he made 21 saves in the 4-2 victory vs. Muskegon. In Friday's 2-1 victory vs. Richmond, he made 26 saves. He turned away 24 of 25 shots on goal in the 3-1 win vs. Richmond on Saturday. Branch then stopped 47 shots on goal in Sunday's 4-1 win vs. Elmira. It is the second UHL weekly honor for the 29-year-old Fort St. John, British Columbia native. He led all UHL goaltenders during the regular season with 1,812 saves. He was also second in minutes played (3,686) and was fifth in wins (31).
