
Komets fall to Mudbugs 3-2 in shootout

Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets fought back from a 2-0 deficit in regulation time but in the end it was Bossier-Shreveport prevailing in a shootout 3-2 Saturday night at the Memorial Coliseum in front of 9,327 Fort Wayne fans.
The Mudbugs were first on the board with Justin Aikens' 16th goal of the season at 3:47 of the first period. Bossier-Shreveport made it 2-0 at 2:27 of the second when Jamie Milam scored his 17th of the campaign. The Komets answered at 13:46 when Mike Ratchuk scored his first goal of the season in his 16th Fort Wayne game to send the game into the second intermission trailing 2-1.
P.C. Drouin knotted the game at 2-2 at 10:41 of the third period to reach a Fort Wayne team high 42 points on the season and finish the scoring in regulation. After a scoreless five-minutes of overtime the Mudbugs emerged with the victory on Steven Crampton's shootout winner in the eighth round. Bossier-Shreveport was two for eight while the Komets were one for eight in the shootout to tie Fort Wayne's record of most shootout rounds in a game this season.
In regulation and overtime the game featured superb goaltender with Nick Boucher stopping 30 of 32 shots and six of eight in the shootout for the Komets. Bossier-Shreveport's John DeCaro made 23 saves and captured his 19th win stopping seven of eight Fort Wayne attempts in the extra session.
The eighth-place Komets moved their record to 28-25-7 for 63 points and trail Dayton and Quad City by two points in the race for playoff position in the Turner Conference. Bossier-Shreveport improved to 35-25-2 for 73 points and jumps into second place in the Berry Conference past Texas (33-23-5, 71 points) after a Brahmas loss Friday night at Mississippi.
The Komets complete the series with the Mudbugs winning three of four meetings (3-0-1).
Saturday the Komets travel to Evansville for an 8:35pm ET faceoff. Sunday the Komets return home to welcome the Bloomington PrairieThunder at 5pm.
