Arizona Sundogs News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Quick strikes in the first and second periods and 36 saves by Kyle Jones helped the Turner Conference-leading Colorado Eagles to a 2-0 win over the Arizona Sundogs Friday night at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley.

Joey Sides had a chance to cut Arizona's deficit to one with a penalty shot attempt midway through the second period but Jones denied the delayed forehand attempt, preserving his club's two-goal cushion.

Despite the loss, Arizona's magic number to secure a playoff berth falls to two. A regulation loss by the Laredo Bucks or a win by the Sundogs would mathematically guarantee Arizona its third playoff berth in five seasons and first since the team's championship season in 2007-08.

The Sundogs remain seven points ahead of Laredo and five points in front of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees with three games remaining in the 2010-11 regular season.

Kevin Ulanski opened scoring 2:05 into the contest with his 31st goal of the season, snapping a short side shot from below the far faceoff dot over the right shoulder of Levente Szuper.

Dan Sullivan stretched Colorado's lead to 2-0 less than two minutes into the second period as a Kip Workman shot from between the circles bounced off a body in front and onto the stick of Sullivan at the near post for the tap-in score at the 1:52 mark.

Shots were 37-36 in favor of the Eagles. Both clubs finished 0-for-5 with the man advantage.

The two teams face off again tomorrow night at 7:05pm (Arizona time). Tickets start at just $12 and are available by phone at 1-866-4-GET-TIX (1-866-443-8849), online at www.GetTix.net and in person at the Tim's Toyota Center Box Office.
