Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush (37-22-4) earned a 2-1 victory over the Laredo Bucks (22-32-8) at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center on Friday night. The Rush picked up a pair of first period goals from Derek LeBlanc and Ryan Menei that proved to be enough as Danny Battochio turned away 23 shots for his league-leading 27th win of the season. Menei's goal served as the game-winner and was also his 100th career goal. The Rush and Bucks clash again tomorrow at 7:05pm. Tickets are still available.
Derek LeBlanc started the scoring, potting his 24th of the season at the 4:12 mark of the opening period. LeBlanc's shot came from the right corner and glanced off the stick of goaltender Pier Pelletier before sliding between his pads and in. The Rush doubled the lead twelve minutes later on Ryan Menei's 100th career goal. On a partial break, Menei got to the top of the right circle and unloaded a laser over the glove of Pier Pelletier for his team-leading 37th of the season.
With less than three minutes remaining in regulation, the Laredo Bucks collected a powerplay goal to cut the lead to one. Off of a faceoff win, Jeff Hazelwood snapped a wrist shot from the left point that found its way through a screen and over the blocker of Danny Battochio. The Bucks then found themselves on a powerplay for the final two minutes, including a 6-on-4 advantage in the final minute. Danny Battochio and the Rush penalty kill were able to hold on and preserve the 2-1 victory.
