Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - The Texas Brahmas came just short Friday evening in Mississippi, 6-5, despite a last minute surge against the Riverkings on the road.
Chad Woollard, playing in his 701st career game got the scoring done early potting the first goal four minutes into the game. The Riverkings powerplay unit went to work to even the game with a Matt Boyd special teams goal. An unassisted goal from Greg Hogeboom put the black and purple back on top, only to have R.G. Flath dismantle the lead who beat Wayne Savage in net for a 2-2 tie heading into the first intermission.
The second was filled with three âKings goals and a netminder change for Texas. Scorers for Mississippi were Darryl Stoddard, Andrew Lackner and Chris Richards. The lone tally for the Brahmas came from Tyler Allen who took a feed from one of the freshest Texas faces, Derek Matheson, for the goal.
Alex Curran registered the Brahmas third shorthanded goal of the season to kick the third period off before Lackner and the âKings powerplay beat backup Steve Christie in goal for their sixth goal of the game. In last ditch efforts, the Brahmas went with the extra attacker and were able to come within one due to a Mick Lawrence goal on the powerplay with 1:07 remaining in the game. The Riverkings defense buckled down to hold onto the 6-5 lead to defeat Texas in their first meeting of the season.
The Brahmas will have a rematch tomorrow evening against the Mississippi RiverKings at 7:05 pm; all the action can be seen on CHL-TV. Texas returns home for the final game in the regular season before playoffs gear up and "Fan Appreciation Night", as they host the Laredo Bucks for a 7:30 pm contest at the NYTEX Sports Centre. A special pregame ceremony will take place on the ice to honor Chad Woollard, the Brahmas all-time leader in scoring, for his 700th career game and point. The first 700 fans at NYTEX will receive commemorative "Woolly on a stick" fans courtesy of Woolley's Frozen Custard. In effort to show their gratitude for their fans, the Brahmas will present prizes throughout the game for the game.
