Komets Extend Win Streak

Fort Wayne, IN — The Komets took both games of a 2-game road set for the week to earn 4 points and improve to 30-13-4 after 47 games of the 2004-05 UHL campaign.

Friday the Komets turned back the Mechanics at Motor City 4-1 on goals by Chris Grenville, Sean Venedam, Shane Kenny and Jonathan Goodwin. Goaltender Kevin St. Pierre stopped 31 of 32 Motor City shots for the win as the Komets extend their series lead over the Mechanics to 4-1-0 with one meeting remaining.

Saturday the Komets traveled to Kalamazoo and doubled-up the Wings 4-2 for their 30th win of the season. Winger Josh Piro registered his first goals as a Komet netting a pair while Venedam and Kenny added tallies. St. Pierre earned his 17th win of the season making 43 saves in his 8th straight start to guide the Komets to their 4th straight win. The Komets have been unbeaten in regulation 6 straight games. It was the 3rd meeting of 7 between the 2 teams. The Komets are now 2-1-0 against Kalamazoo with the next meeting slated for Wednesday, Feb. 16 at Fort Wayne.

This weekend the Komets skate at Muskegon Friday at 7:30pm before returning home to face the Mallards from Quad City Saturday night at 7:30.

Venedam tops K's for January.....winger Sean Venedam (Fort Wayne's player nominee of the month) led the Komets in January with 8 goals, 10 assists, 18 points and a + 10 in all 11 games scheduled. Venedam also led with 3 power play tallies and 2 game winners for the month. Netminder Kevin St. Pierre (Fort Wayne's goaltender nominee of the month) posted a 5-2-1 record and 1.76 goals against average for January. St. Pierre stopped 260 of 275 shots for a .945 save percentage and posted 1 shutout while finishing the month on a 4-game win streak. The Komets were 6-4-1 in the 11 games played during the month.

Welcome Back.....the Komets re-signed veteran center Adam Lewis last week. Lewis, in his first action of the season this past weekend, registered an assist and 7 penalty minutes Friday at Motor City and a +2 overall. -Komet roster-

Team Mountain Dew betters Team Pepsi.....the league stars gathered in Adirondack Monday, Jan. 24 for the UHL All-Star Classic. Komet coach Greg Puhalski guided his team Mountain Dew to a 7-6 shootout victory over Team Pepsi. Also appearing with Puahlski were Komets Pc. Drouin (1a, +1), Sean Venedam (+1) and Jonathan Goodwin (1g, +1). Komets Colin Chaulk and Jason Kean were also selected UHL All-Stars but were unable to perform due to injury.

Got A's, Get Tickets.....it's the annual Comcast Report Card Night at the Komet game this Saturday when the Komets host Quad City at 7:30pm. Students with A's or A-equivalents on their report card can show their A's at the Coliseum Ticket Office for a free ticket to this Saturday's Komet game.
