Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- The United Hockey League announced Monday that Rockford IceHogs goaltender Seamus Kotyk was named the Southern Sports Supply Goalie of the Week for Week 16 of the 2004-05 UHL season. Kotyk is the second IceHogs goalie to earn the honor this season. Michel Robinson was rewarded for his efforts in Week 6 earlier in the campaign.
Kotyk was assigned to Rockford last Thursday after Robinson was loaned to Milwaukee. In three games, Kotyk allowed only two-goals and posted a 2-1-0 record with a 0.67 goals against average and a .976 save percentage. Kotyk capped his week with a 38 save performance and a shutout win over the Quad City Mallards on Sunday.
The fourth year goalie had spent his entire career in the AHL prior to his debut with the IceHogs on Friday. Kotyk was 6-4-0 with the Admirals before being sent to Rockford for a conditioning assignment. The London, Ontario native spent the previous three seasons with the Cleveland Barons (AHL) with his best season statistically coming last year when he went 13-10-5 with a 2.48 goals against average and a .925 save percentage in 30 games.
Kotyk, who has made three starts for Rockford, is expected to remain with the IceHogs through Wednesday's game against the Muskegon Fury. Kotyk's shutout Sunday marked the fifth time this season in which the Hogs have held the opposition scoreless.
Next Home Game: Wednesday, February 2 vs. Muskegon Fury. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Defending Colonial Cup Champion Fury play in Rockford for the final time during the 2004-05 regular season. Wednesday means fans can PigOut with the Hogs and the rock station, 104.9 FM, WXRX.
