'Dogs open six-game homestand this week

The Richmond RiverDogs are now 23-22-3 after going 2-1 last week. The ‘Dogs are in third place in the Eastern Division two points out of a wild card playoff spot. The ‘Dogs open a six game homestand Wednesday vs. Port Huron. Nine of the ‘Dogs next 13 games are at home.

Wednesday, February 2 vs. Port Huron 7:35 PM GAME NOTES: The fourth of four meetings and the third and final here. The ‘Dogs are 1-1-1 vs. Port Huron, 1-0-1 here. David Brosseau has six points vs. the Beacons. Josh Tataryn and Aaron Brand have five vs. the ‘Dogs. Port Huron is 6-20 on the power play vs. Richmond.

Friday, February 4 vs. Flint 7:35 PM GAME NOTES: The first of four meetings and the first of two here. The ‘Dogs were 6-5-1 vs. Flint last season, 4-1-1 at home. The ‘Dogs trail Flint by two points in the wild card race. Jim Duhart had 16 points vs. the ‘Dogs last season. David Brosseau had six goals vs. Flint in seven games.

Saturday, February 5 vs. Flint 7:35 PM GAME NOTES: The second of four meetings and the second and final here. The third of three straight games vs. the Central Division. The Generals lineup includes Kevin Kerr, the leading career goal scorer in minor league hockey history.

Wednesday, January 26 @ Adirondack WIN 1-0 GAME NOTES: Nathan Grobins notched his second straight shutout of the Frostbite and Ryan Prentice scored the game's only goal as the ‘Dogs ended a three game winless streak against the Frostbite. Grobins made 34 saves. Prentice goal came on a second period power play.

Friday, January 28 @ Danbury WIN 4-2 GAME NOTES: The ‘Dogs David Brosseau scored a hat trick as the ‘Dogs opened up a 3-0 lead and held on to become the first club to beat Danbury twice at the Danbury Ice Arena. Francis Belanger also scored for the ‘Dogs and added an assist. Nathan Grobins made 34 saves.

Saturday, January 29 @ Danbury LOSS 6-1 GAME NOTES: The ‘Dogs Brian Goudie scored 14 seconds into the game, but Danbury scored twice in the second period and blew the game open with three third period goals. Mike Bayrack had two goals and an assist for the Trashers. Alex Goupil added a goal and assist.

DOG BITES: The 'Dogs fourth three game winning streak of the year ended Saturday. Richmond has yet to win four straight. The 'Dogs went 2-1 on a three game road trip. They open a six game homestand Wednesday. Nathan Grobins seven game unbeaten streak in net for the 'Dogs ended Saturday. Richmond has killed off 17 straight opponents power plays. The 'Dogs are 6-3-1 in their last 10 games while holding opponents to 23 goals in that span. Richmond added Semir Ben-Amor and Brian Herbert to the roster Friday following the trade with Danbury for Ryan McIntosh. Grobins ran off 119:36 consecutive shutout minutes in a streak that ended in the second period Friday. The 'Dogs 1-0 win over Adirondack Wednesday was Grobins second straight shutout of the Frostbite and the 'Dogs ended a three game winless skid vs. Adirondack. David Brosseau's hat trick vs. the Trashers Friday was his second of the season. The 'Dogs held Danbury to 26 shots Saturday, the Trashers lowest total in the 11 game season series and nearly 10 below their league-leading per game average. David Hymovitz five game scoring streak ended Saturday. Ryan Prentice four game scoring streak ended Friday. Luch Nasato's three game point scoring streak ended Friday. Brian Goudie's goal 14 seconds into the first period Saturday was the 'Dogs fastest goal to start a game this season. Grobins has started four straight games in net. David Hymovitz is 10th in the league in scoring. Hymovitz was the ‘Dogs lone All Star representative and had an assist in the game. Mark Turner is 20th in points. Trevor Senn is third in the league in penalty minutes. Senn and Derek Schutz remain on IR. Grobins is tied for fifth in the league in shutouts. Mike Dombkiewicz is tied for 10th in the league in rookie scoring. Kyle Sheen leads the UHL in rookie penalty minutes.
