Saturday, January 29th-Flint 2 at Quad City 5
Marty Standish recorded the second Mallards hat trick of 2004-05 as Quad City beat Flint 5-2 on Saturday at The MARK. Jason Deskins started the scoring with his team-leading 15th goal of the season at the 6:32 mark of the opening period. In the second, the Generals scored twice on a major penalty against Mallard Les Borsheim. Rob Valicevic and Jim Duhart scored just 1:13 apart in the first three minutes of the middle frame. The pair of man advantage markers gave the Generals a 2-1 lead. Standish evened the game with a shorthanded goal at 8:40 of the second period. The goal was the third shorthanded tally for the Mallards this season. The third period began tied at two with the Mallards killing off a Generals 5-on-3 power play and a five-minute major. The Mallards used the momentum from the penalty kill to roll off three unanswered goals in the second half of the final period. At the 10:18 mark, with the teams skating four-on-four, Standish scored his second goal of the night to reclaim the lead for the Mallards at 3-2. Mike Kompon scored an insurance goal on a Mallards man advantage at 15:03 of the third. Just 57 seconds after Kompon's goal, Standish completed his hat trick by sending Greg Barber's drop pass into the back of the Flint net. A hotly contested game boiled over following Standish's third goal. Within a minute of the final goal, two fights broke out. Dave Stewart and Kris Waltze tangled at the 16:09 mark of the period followed by Les Borsheim and Curtis Tidball at 16:35. In the Mallards net, Jeff Reynaert stopped 27 of 29 shots in earning his 11th victory of 2004-05.
