Komets Announce 2013-14 Schedule

Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets announced Wednesday that the 2013-14 season will begin with a home tilt against the Toledo Walleye Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7:30pm. The 72-game ECHL schedule features 36 home dates and 36 road dates.

It will be the fifth time in the history of the Fort Wayne club that the Komets have hosted a Toledo team for the home opener. The last time was on Oct. 16, 1976 when the Goaldiggers were upended by the K's 5-2 in the home and season opener in front of 4,744 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

The Komets will host 33 weekend and holiday games out of the 36 dates scheduled for coliseum ice. Of the home dates, 13 are on Fridays, 11 Saturdays and seven Sundays. Florida visits for the traditional Fort Wayne Thanksgiving game and Toledo will be in town for the annual New Year's Eve game. "By far this is the best schedule that we have had in years," Komet president Michael Franke said. "Playing 33 of 36 home games on weekends and holidays should be good news for all Komet fans."

69 of the 72 games slated are against Eastern Conference rivals. The Walleye and Kalamazoo Wings will visit Fort Wayne the most at six games each. Cincinnati and Florida make four trips to Fort Wayne. Evansville, Reading and Wheeling will skate three games on coliseum ice. Elmira, Greenville and Gwinnett are slated for two games each in Fort Wayne while Orlando is in town for one meeting. The Komets will make a season-high eight trips to Kalamazoo and will face the Wings the most with 14 games. Six games are at Evansville and three games are at Toledo for a total of nine meetings each against the IceMen and Walleye. The Komets face Cincinnati eight times (four at home and four on the road). Seven games total are scheduled against Elmira and Florida while four games are on the docket against Reading and Wheeling. The Komets will face Greenville and Gwinnett two times each and Orlando once during the season.

Only three Western Conference games are scheduled and they will be played during a triple-header Nov. 1, 2 and 3 at Las Vegas when the Komets reacquaint themselves with the old IHL city. It will be the Komets' first trip to Las Vegas since Jan. 29, 1999.

The Komets will skate three games in three nights 11 times and four games in five nights on four occasions during the campaign.

Road notes-- The Komets will hit the ice at 10:30am Fort Wayne time when they skate a special school game at Evansville Wednesday, Nov. 6. It's the only morning start of the season for the K's.....The first ever Fort Wayne road game at Fort Meyers, Florida will be Wednesday, Feb. 19 when the Komets are at the Germain Arena to face the Everblades for three games in four nights....The South Carolina Stingrays will continue to be the only Eastern Conference team to not travel to Fort Wayne during the season. The Komets however skated two games at South Carolina last year and will do the same this year.

Home double-header weekend-- The Komets will host 10 home double-header weekends this season beginning Nov. 15 and 16 when they welcome Toledo and Greenville for the weekend. The Komets will complete the season with a pair at home when Evansville visits Friday, April 11 and Toledo returns for the season finale Saturday, April 12.

New start time for Wednesdays-- Wednesday night Komet home games will face off at a new time of 7:00pm for 2013-14. Monday, Tuesday and Saturday games will continue with start times of 7:30pm while Fridays remain at 8:00pm and Sunday faceoffs stay at 5:00pm.
