
Koca Slugs Otters to Victory

July 7, 2009, Evansville, IN - The Otters overcame a 5-2 deficit Tuesday night to prevail 7-6 over the Florence Freedom at Bosse Field. Dustin Koca, who had not homered since June 12, hit a pair of two-run bombs. The first tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the first inning, and the second tied the game at 5-5 in the fifth. Both home runs came with two outs.
The Otters kept things going after Koca's second home run, as Frank Meade and Greg Alexander both walked. Eric Blackwell hit a ball ground ball into left field that got by Matt Stiffler, rolling all the way to the wall. Both Meade and Alexander scored on the play, giving the Otters a 7-5 lead. Blackwell finished 3-for-4 with 2 RBI. The Freedom closed the gap to 7-6 after a bases loaded walk in the seventh inning. Reliever Ben Paxton came on with the bases still loaded and got Erold Andrus to fly out to centerfield to end the inning. Justin Smith pitched a perfect ninth inning for his seventh save. Nick Utley picked up the win in relief, advancing to 3-3. Freedom starter Andy Clark fell to 2-4, giving up six earned runs in 4.2 innings.
The three game series continues Wednesday at 7:05pm CDT.
