Gateway Grizzlies News Release

AVON, OH-Gateway Grizzlies starter Paige Dumont tossed the second complete game of his career Tuesday night. The right-hander allowed only a single run as the Grizzlies downed the Lake Erie Crushers 7-1 in the first of a three-game series and a six-game road trip.

The Grizzlies (16-26) have now won two straight and three of their last four games. The win snaps a nine-game road losing streak.

Dumont surrendered only five hits, walked two and struck out six in his second start for the Grizzlies. He improved to 1-1 with the win.

Stephen Holdren got the Grizzlies on the board in the fourth. His ground out scored Brandon Peters from third to make it 1-0. Peters singled to start the inning and advanced to third on an error and a balk. Gateway went up 3-0 with a pair of runs against Crushers' reliever, and former Grizzlie, Shannon Sprouse. Peters walked to lead off the inning, before scoring on an Alex Kerins double. Kerins scored later in the inning on a double by Charlie Lisk.

Lake Erie (24-18) got their only run in the bottom of the sixth. Crushers' shortstop Jodem Rivera led off with a triple then scored on a ground out by Drew Saylor.

Brandon Johnson put the Grizzlies up 4-1 in the seventh with a double that scored Cody Merrell.

The Grizzlies then added three runs with two outs in the top of the ninth. Johnson started the rally with his third home run of the year that just cleared the wall fair in right field. Peters singled, and Kerins walked before Holdren and Lisk each added run scoring hits in the inning.

Lisk finished the night 3-5 with two RBIs. His league-leading RBI total climbed to 48. Johnson was 2-4 with the homer and two RBIs. Holdren 1-4 with the two RBIs. Peters was 2-5 with three runs scored.

The Grizzlies and Crushers will play game two of the three game set Wednesday night at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon. First pitch is set for 6:05 pm, central time.
