Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti News Release

The Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti win in their last at bat against the River City Rascals 4-3. Bryan Bonner hit a walk-off single in the ninth that brought in Clay McCord to break the 3-3 tie, and end the game.

Midwest scored first, in the bottom of the fourth, when Roberto Mena doubled and later scored from a Gilberto Zayas double down the right field line.

All of the Rascals scoring came from the top of the fifth inning. Three unearned runs scored off two errors, two singles, and a hit batsman.

Sliders answered in the sixth scoring two runs to tie up the game at 3-3. Ben Barrone singled and scored from a Jimmy Baker single. Zack Pace also scored in the sixth, after getting hit by a pitch, Sam DeLuca singled up the middle to drive in Pace.

It looked bad for Midwest between the seventh and eighth innings, Rascal pitching record five strikeouts shutting down the Sliders bats.

Leading off the bottom of the ninth Clay McCord came up with a huge double in the right-center gap. After Robbie Knapp bunted for a single, Bryan Bonners rope to right field scored McCord to bring out the whole Midwest bench in celebration.

Kyle Kearcher started the game throwing six innings not allowing an earned run. P.J. Zocchi earned the win throwing three innings of relief allowing two hits and striking out three. The Rascals wasted a good outing from Jake Laber who struck out ten batters, in eight innings of work.

Wednesday is the middle game of the series at 7:05 p.m. at EMU's Oestrike Stadium. Sliders All-Star James Albury (5-1, 1.92) will make the start.
