Pitching Carries Wild Things to Victory

Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, beat the Southern Illinois Miners 4-1 in a pitcher's duel.

Southern Illinois took a 1-0 lead in the fourth before Washington center fielder Chris Sidick caught a long fly ball against the wall to end the inning.

Ernie Banks led off the fifth inning for the Wild Things with a homerun in the fifth inning. Washington scored again in the eighth when Miners' third baseman Randy Molina dropped a pop up with two outs. Phil Laurent followed with a two run single.

Wild Things starting pitcher Andrew Schindling pitched 7.1 strong innings, giving up only four hits and no earned runs. He struck out five and walked just one batter. Reliever Keith Meyer gets credit for the win. Meyer did not give up a hit in 2.2 innings.

The Wild Things and Miners meet again tomorrow night at 7:05 at CONSOL Energy Park. Broadcast on WJPA 95.3 FM begins at 6:55.
