Knizner Homers, Nogowski's Hitting Streak to 14
June 30, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The Memphis Redbirds fell behind 6-1 before a late rally brought them within 6-3, but the New Orleans Baby Cakes (Marlins) polished off a win by that score in the series opener Saturday night at AutoZone Park.
Andrew Knizner was 3-for-4 with a home run and two singles for the Redbirds (33-49), and he drove in two runs. John Nogowski extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a 2-for-4 showing.
The Redbirds were stymied by New Orleans' Hector Noesi, who allowed just three runs on seven hits in 7.2 solid innings of work for the Baby Cakes (45-37). He struck out six and walked only one.
Mike Hauschild started for Memphis and tossed 4.0 innings. Five Redbirds relievers followed him, including Mike Mayers and Ryan Helsley on their second injury rehabilitation appearances.
After scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to come within 6-3, the Redbirds left a pair of runners on base in that frame and another was stranded in the bottom of the ninth as the game wrapped up.
The Redbirds and Baby Cakes continue their five-game series tomorrow afternoon at 2:05. Memphis remains at home through its Independence Day Celebration presented by AutoZone on Wednesday.
