
Knights Fall to Tides 4-1 on Tuesday

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - The Charlotte Knights dropped the opening game of a six-game series against the Norfolk Tides by a score of 4-1 at Truist Field on Tuesday night. The game was the shortest of the season for Charlotte thus far, clocking in at two hours and three minutes.
RHP Brody Koerner (0-2, 6.75) started for the Knights and was saddled with the loss. He allowed a two-run home run to Kyle Stowers in the first to give the Tides a 2-0 lead. Despite the tough first inning, he then proceeded to pitch three scoreless innings. Koerner allowed two hits on four innings pitched with one walk while striking out six Tides batters.
Charlotte's only run of the game came in the bottom of the eighth inning on a solo home run from shortstop Danny Mendick, who was optioned back to the Knights from the Chicago White Sox on Monday.
For Norfolk, the #1 pitching prospect in the nation, Grayson Rodriguez (3-1, 2.65) got the start and the win for Norfolk. Rodriguez threw 5.1 strong innings giving up three hits and walking three while striking out 11 batters.
RHP J.B. Olson provided a strong performance out of the bullpen for the Knights, throwing three scoreless innings, only allowing two hits and striking out three. LHP Kyle Kubat added an effective ninth inning for Charlotte, where he allowed no baserunners and struck out one batter.
In the eighth inning, Norfolk added to their lead with a two-run homer by catcher Adley Rutschman. Rutschman is ranked as the top prospect in the Orioles system by Baseball America.
The Knights will continue the six-game series against the Tides on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. from Truist Field.
