Worcester Red Sox News Release
WORCESTER, M.A. - The Worcester Red Sox (16-21) celebrated a long-awaited victory on Tuesday night at Polar Park, a 4-3 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (13-23) to snap a 10-game losing streak.
The game was tied at three entering the bottom of the eighth inning, and after two quick outs, Jarren Duran worked a walk. Jeter Downs was next, and with Duran attempting to steal second, smacked a single to left to put runners on first and third. Working against Roberto Ramos next, reliever Braden Bristo threw a pitch that skipped off the catcher-it rolled far enough, allowing Duran to sprint home with the go-ahead run on the wild pitch.
Kaleb Ort entered for the ninth and set the RailRiders down in order, sealing the WooSox' first win since May 5.
Josh Winckowski got the start for Worcester and was brilliant, going six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts. The right-hander allowed two hits with just one walk, delivering his eighth straight runless frame.
Rob Refsnyder put the WooSox up 1-0 in the third on an RBI infield single, scoring Jeter Downs. Downs reached base on a single, part of a three-hit night for the 23-year-old.
The one-run score held until the seventh against WooSox reliever Geoff Hartlieb-Greg Bird launched a solo homer to left, Jose Peraza notched an RBI single and Ronald Guzman doubled home Peraza, all part of a frame that put the RailRiders up 3-1.
But the WooSox responded in the seventh with a pair of RBI knocks-one by Roberto Ramos, who entered for Triston Casas after the first baseman exited the game with the training staff, and one from Ryan Fitzgerald to tie the game. One inning later, Duran's sprint around the basepaths put the WooSox on top.
The WooSox continue the series at Polar Park on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. against the Scranton-Wilkes Barre RailRiders, affiliate of the New York Yankees. On the mound, Red Sox #4 prospect Brayan Bello makes his Triple-A debut against Luis Gil. Television coverage is on NESN+, while radio coverage is live at 6:25 p.m. on 100.1 FM The Pike, 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network.
