Charlotte Knights News Release

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - The Charlotte Knights dropped the finale of the six-game series against the Norfolk Tides by a score of 2-1 on Sunday, July 4th in front of a record-crowd of 10,969 fans. The crowd was the highest in the history of Truist Field (opened on April 11, 2014).

Third baseman Zach Remillard provided Charlotte's lone run of the game with a solo home run in the eighth inning, his fourth of the season. Designated hitter Yermín Mercedes and shortstop Matt Reynolds chipped in with two hits apiece.

RHP Alex McRae (2-3, 4.54) was sharp over six strong innings, but was saddled with the loss. McRae allowed two runs on three hits and struck-out 10 batters on the evening. Charlotte's bullpen was once again impressive as three relievers (Zack Burdi, Kodi Medeiros and Ofreidy Gómez) held the Tides scoreless over the final three innings.

The Tides scored both runs in the second inning of the game courtesy of solo home runs from Tyler Nevin and Seth Mejias-Brean. LHP Alex Wells (5-3, 4.86) earned the win for Norfolk with five shutout innings.

The Knights will now have an off day on Monday before opening a six-game series from Jacksonville, FL against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
