Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Indians hosted their biggest crowd of the 2021 season at 10,869 fans on Sunday afternoon as they dropped the Fourth of July series finale vs. the Iowa Cubs, 5-2. The I-Cubs took the six-game set, four games to two.

Beau Sulser, throwing in relief as Luis Oviedo (L, 0-1) started for his first rehab appearance, tossed 5.1 hitless innings with three walks and a career-high tying seven strikeouts to close out the game.

Iowa (21-30) began the scoring in the second inning with a two-run long ball out to right field. It tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning off a two-run double by Tyler Ladendorf and two-out RBI single by Dee Strange-Gordon.

The Indians (27-26) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning off a Christian Bethancourt rocket home run far out to left field. They plated another when Cole Tucker walked home Taylor Davis with the bases loaded in the fifth.

With the loss, Indianapolis has now lost eight of its last 11 Fourth of July games dating back to 2010. The Indians have played a Fourth of July game at Victory Field in each season of the field's history, with the exception of a postponement in 2009. In those holiday games, they now have an 11-12 record.

Indianapolis travels to Columbus to face off against its former International League West Division rival beginning on Tuesday. Neither team has named probable pitchers for the series.
