Charlotte Knights News Release

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - The Charlotte Knights had their three-game winning streak snapped with a 6-2 loss to the Toledo Mud Hens 6-2 on Tuesday night.

The Mud Hens took an early lead when Daniel Fields scored on a throwing error by Knights catcher Kevan Smith after stealing third base in the top of the first inning. The unearned run would be the only score against Knights starter RHP Brad Penny (1-2, 6.08), who was saddled with the loss despite not allowing an earned run over 4.0 innings pitched.

Toledo starter RHP Tim Melville (1-2, 3.80) would earn the win after allowing no runs on one hit through seven innings pitched.

RHP Javy Guerra - who made a major-league rehab appearance with the Knights - relieved Penny to start the fifth inning, and allowed two runs on three hits while striking out one.

After scoring one run in the sixth inning, the Hens used a pair of RBI-singles in the top of the seventh off of RHP Arcenio Leon to extend the lead to 6-0.

Dan Black put the Knights on the 'board in the seventh inning when he extended his hitting streak to nine games with an RBI-double that scored Trayce Thompson from first base. Black would eventually come around to score on a Leury Garcia single to cut the deficit to 6-2.

RHP Maikel Cleto would relieve Leon with two outs in the seventh inning, and the Dominican native continued his scoreless-innings streak with 2.1 frames of no-hit baseball. The 25-year-old has not allowed an earned run over his last 11 outings, a span of 19.2 innings pitched.

The Charlotte Knights (11-7) and Toledo Mud Hens (9-9) will play the rubber match on Wednesday morning; the first Education Day of 2015 at BB&T Ballpark, presented by Duke Energy. First pitch is set for 11:05 a.m. with gates opening at 10 a.m. for the battle between righties Erik Johnson and Tim Weber.
