Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky - The Louisville Bats (7-12) and the Indianapolis Indians (11-9) split a pair of seven-inning games in Tuesday's doubleheader at Louisville Slugger Field. The Bats took the first game 3-2, but the Indians rallied for a 2-1 win in game two.
Louisville righty John Moscot (W, 3-0, 2.16) started game one for the Bats and allowed two earned runs on four walks with four strikeouts in five innings of work. Moscot is the only Bats' pitcher to begin the season 3-0 and is the first Bat to three wins in 2015.
The Indians took a 1-0 lead in the first as Indianapolis strung together three singles in the frame to plate the games first run.
Louisville responded with two runs in the second as outfielder Steve Selsky doubled home a run and shortstop Eugenio Suarez later walked with the bases loaded to make it a 2-1 game.
In the fifth inning Suarez hit a solo home run to right to push the Louisville lead to 3-1. Suarez's solo blast was his team-leading third of the year and all three of his home runs have come in games that Moscot has started.
Indianapolis scored a run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth, but Louisville righty Nate Adcock (S, 3) tossed two shutout innings to secure the Bats 3-2 victory.
Indians' right-hander Casey Sadler (L, 1-1, 2.84era) took the mound for the Indians in game one and allowed three earned runs on six hits and three walks in six innings. Sadler also struck out a pair of Bats in his losing effort.
Indianapolis flipped the script in game two even though Louisville right-hander Donovan Hand tossed five scoreless innings to start the contest. Making his first start in 2015, his sixth overall appearance, Hand allowed just two hits and struck out three in a no-decision.
The Indians broke through in the sixth, though, with two runs off Louisville righty Drew Hayes (L, 0-1, 18.00era). Hayes walked the first two batters of the inning and surrendered back-to-back RIB singles to Indianapolis second baseman Alen Hanson and shortstop Pedro Florimon. In one inning of work Hayes allowed two earned runs on two hits and three walks. It was also Hayes' Triple-A debut.
Louisville was able to scratch out a run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double by Bats' third baseman Ivan De Jesús Jr., cutting the Indianpolis lead to 2-1.
Indianapolis righty Blake Wood (S, 6) closed the door on the Bats in the seventh inning, allowing one hit and striking out two in the final frame to earn his sixth save of the season.
Southpaw Charlie Leesman (W, 4-1) started game two for Indianapolis and allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out one to earn his fourth win of the 2015 campagin.
The Bats and Indians will head to Indianapolis to play the final two games of a five-game split series. Righty Dylan Axelrod will toe the rubber for Louisville tomorrow, as right-hander Wilfredo Boscan will take the mound for Indianapolis.
