Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - The Charlotte Knights dropped the opening game of a three-game series to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs by a score of 2-1 on Friday night at BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte. The Knights welcomed 10,270 fans to the ballpark for their 10th sell-out crowd of the 2018 season.
RHP Michael Kopech (2-4, 4.70) struck out 10 batters over six innings, but was saddled with the loss. Kopech surrendered two runs on five hits as he notched his second double-digit strikeout performance of the season. Ranked as the top pitching prospect in the Chicago White Sox organization, Kopech now has 80 strikeouts over 59.1 innings pitched.
Offensively for the Knights, second baseman Eddy Alvarez led the team as he went 3-for-3 with two doubles. Shortstop Jake Elmore added two of Charlotte's seven hits on the night.
In the bullpen, the team received strong outings from LHP Aaron Bummer, RHP Rob Scahill, and RHP Gregory Infante, who combined for three shutout innings. Despite Friday's loss, the Knights have won nine of their last 14 games.
Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and the team will continue a three-game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies) from BB&T Ballpark. Pre-game radio coverage of Saturday's 7:04 p.m. game will begin at 6:50 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and CharlotteKnights.com from BB&T Ballpark.
