Louisville Bats News Release
SERIES OPENER: The Louisville Bats travel to Moosic, Pennsylvania to face the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. The Bats look to snap their two-game losing skid after rattling off a season-best 5 straight wins. Louisville turns to right-hander Jose Lopez , who has won his last 2 starts, with the offense producing a combined two runs in the team's last 2 games. LOU currently owns a 7-10 record in series openers.
AGAINST SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE: The Bats and RailRiders meet for the second and final time this season, a three-game series at PNC Field. Last season, Louisville went 2-4 against Scranton, dropping two separate three-game series. LOU was outscored in those matchups 33-28. The Bats last won the season series against the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees in 2012, when LOU went 6-2 against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, including a four-game sweep at Louisville Slugger Field. During the clubs' last meeting just over a week ago, SWB won the first 2 games of the series before LOU won the finale on May 31, the catalyst for a season-long 5-game win streak that was snapped June 6, last series at Pawtucket.
ROAD GAME #25: Friday marks the Bats' 25th road game of the season, hoping to avoid starting 5-20 away from LSF this season. Last season, the Bats were 9-16 after 25 road games, and in 2016 they were 16-9. LOU's record through its first 24 road games this season is the worst in franchise history.
200 RUNS: The Bats have scored 198 runs as a club this season, one of just 2 teams (Rochester, 193) with fewer than 200 runs scored this season. Last season, Louisville scored its 200th run of the season on June 2 in the team's 53rd game of the season. Run #200 was scored that day in the bottom of the third against Lehigh Valley by Rob Brantly on a Sebastian Elizalde RBI single.
SAINT NICK: Since returning from the disabled list, top prospect Nick Senzel has reached base in all but one game (his first game back on May 29). He's currently reached base safely in 8 straight games, hitting safely in his last 7. During his current 7-game hit streak, Senzel is batting .308 (8-for-26) with 4 doubles, 6 RBI, 4 walks, 4 strikeouts and 2 stolen bases.
DILLY BAR: Infielder Dilson Herrera went 2-for-3 in Thursday's 5-1 loss, raising his average to .292 this season. In his last 5 games, he's batting .444 (8-for-18) with 2 doubles, 2 RBI, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts.
STREAKY SERIES OPENERS: The Bats own a 7-10 record in series openers this season, winning each of their last 2 after having lost their last 3 in a row. The Bats started off 0-5 in series openers, going 7-5 since. LOU is 3-4 in series openers on the road this season.
ONE IS NO FUN: The Bats have scored just one run in back-to-back games after scoring seven in each of their previous two ballgames. The recent spell of being quiet offensively has been a trend for Louisville, scoring just two runs in a three-game span from May 28-30, and also scoring just two runs in two games April 8-9 this season.
