Louisville Bats News Release
MOOSIC, Pa. - The Louisville Bats (21-36) dropped the series opener to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (27-32) by a 4-3 score Friday night at PNC Field. The loss hands Louisville its third straight loss after a season-long five-game winning streak.
Bruce Caldwell hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth for Scranton off Louisville starting pitcher Jose Lopez (2-6, 4.30), who was tagged with his team-high sixth loss of the season after recording wins in his previous two starts. The right-hander went 5.0 innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits and the homer, walking three and striking out five on 87 pitches, 57 strikes.
Dilson Herrera did his best to bring the Bats back into the game, smacking a two-run double in the top of the fifth to make it a one run game. Herrera went 1-for-3 with the two-run double and added another RBI on a bases loaded walk in the ninth, giving him a three RBI night.
Kyle Crockett would give up a run in the sixth that gave the RailRiders a 4-2 lead, with the Bats threatening in the top of the ninth, loading the bases with one out. After Herrera's RBI walk, Mason Williams and Nick Senzel each struck out against Scranton closer Cody Carroll, who notched his fifth save of the season.
Hernan Iribarren went 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit single in the ninth, his team-leading fifth hit out of the pinch this season, and 404th career hit in a Louisville uniform.
The Bats will go with left-hander Brandon Finnegan (1-4, 4.18), who will look to win his second start in a row for the middle game Saturday. Scranton will counter with left-hander and former University of Louisville Cardinal, Josh Rogers (5-4, 3.29), who stifled Bats hitters with 7.0 scoreless innings in his start at Louisville Slugger Field. First pitch will once again be at 6:35 p.m.
