Knights down 'Dogs 5-2

Hamilton, ON -The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated 5-2 by the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights in front of 6,899 fans at Copps Coliseum on Saturday night. The loss snaps Hamilton's three-game losing streak.

After a scoreless first period, Hamilton opened the scoring at 2:37 of the middle frame. Maxim Lapierre dropped a pass back to Duncan Milroy who one-timed a shot past Omaha netminder Curtis McElhinney.

Just 34 seconds later Omaha evened the game when Lynn Loyns banged in a loose puck in the Hamilton crease.

The Knights took their first lead of the game on a power play at 14:34. Richie Regehr's point shot was deflected by David Moss over the shoulder of Yann Danis.

Omaha extended their lead to 3-1 at 19:10 when Justin Taylor and Cam Severson went into the Hamilton zone on a two-on-one. Taylor passed the puck to Severson who put it behind Danis.

Jonathan Ferland skated across the Knights' blueline and, as he was falling, fired a shot from the high slot that beat McElhinney at 2:49 of the third period.

While on the penalty kill the Knights restored their two goal lead when Ajay Baines broke in alone and snapped a shot past Danis at 6:12.

Omaha made the score 5-2 when Craig MacDonald scored a power-play goal at 11:04.

Danis made saves 32 on 37 shots, while McElhinney made 23 saves to earn the win.

Hamilton was 0 for 7 on the power play while Omaha went 2 for 5.

Hamilton's next game will take place on Sunday, February 19th when they host the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights.
