Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - Kelly Guard stopped 46 Philadelphia shots as the Binghamton Senators earned their second straight win with a 5-1 victory against the Phantoms before a packed house of 4,710 fans at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday night.

Winger Denis Hamel scored his 34th and 35th goals of the season and Brandon Bochenski scored for a fourth straight game as the Senators moved past Philadelphia into fifth place in the East Division. Binghamton now stands 13 points behind the Norfolk Admirals and Bridgeport Sound Tigers for the final playoff spot in the East Division.

Also getting on the board for Binghamton were forwards Jeff Heerema, who scored the game's first goal, and Joe Cullen. Steve Martins had three assists and joined Hamel and Heerema with a +3 rating.

Guard's 46 save effort tied a franchise record for saves in a game originally established by Ray Emery in a 3-4 loss at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Feb. 12, 2003. With the win, his record improved to 14-11-1 on the season.

Philly goaltender Martin Houle made 30 saves in the losing effort.

Binghamton was successful on one of six power-play tries while stopping six of the Phantom's seven power plays.

The Senators return to home ice tomorrow evening for a 5:05 p.m. showdown with the Syracuse Crunch. It will be the third meeting between the squads in the last 10 days.
