Albany Devils News Release
Albany, N.Y. - Paul Healey scored twice to lead the Lowell Lock Monsters (21-27-4-5) to a 2-1 victory over the Albany River Rats (18-33-2-2) at the Pepsi Arena on Saturday night.
The Monsters were strong in the first period, looking to erase their six-game winless skid, holding the Rats to just six opening frame shots and playing physical. Cody McLeod engaged in a scrap with Albany's David Clarkson just four minutes in. Lowell later drew first blood with a power play marker at 12:49. With Teemu Kesa in the sin bin for Albany, Healey buried his first of the night and 11th of the season to make it 1-0. Jeff Finger assisted on the goal to give him 11 points (2g-9a) in his last 16 games.
A penalty at the first period buzzer put Lowell on the power play to start the second and they converted. Healey's second of the game came just 56 seconds into the frame to make it 2-0. Keith Aucoin picked up his second assist of the contest on the tally. Albany cut to within a goal at 16:38, with a power play of their own. Clarkson jammed at a loose puck on the doorstep and shoved it in for his 11th of the season. The Monsters had allowed just 14 shots through two periods.
Into the third frame, the Monsters held off the Rats attack. Albany came close to tying it when Alexander Mogilny rang a shot off the post about six minutes into the third. Lowell took a penalty with just 62 seconds remaining in regulation, giving the Rats a perfect chance to tie the game in the waning moments. Weiman stood his ground as Albany fired away frantically in the final minute. Just a brief moment after the sounding of the final buzzer, Albany did slip the puck past Weiman, but despite the argument, it was too little, too late for the Rats, and the Monsters took the win.
