
Kingfish Book Their Second Extra Inning Win in Three Days

Traverse City, Mich. - The Kenosha Kingfish (18-13) defeated the Traverse City Pit Spitters (20-13) 12-6 at Turtle Creek Stadium on Friday, July 2nd.
Looking to pull ahead in the Great Lakes East, Traverse City put up two runs in the first inning. However, Kenosha responded when Mitch Jebb (Michigan State) reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Carmine Lane (South Florida) to cut the deficit down to 2-1.
In the top of the fourth, McKay Barney (Washington) doubled with two outs, scoring Luke Stephenson (Xavier) and Jebb to give Kenosha the 3-2 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, Traverse City tied the game, but like their first batch of runs, the Kingfish responded in the top of the sixth when Vince Bianchina (Northwestern) singled, scoring Jebb to give the Kingfish a 4-3 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Traverse City had the bases loaded with nobody out, but Brady Kais (Columbus State) got three straight outs to escape the jam.
In the ninth inning, Traverse City took the lead on a Christian Faust (Grand Valley State) sacrifice fly to send the contest to extras. In the tenth inning, Justin Janas (Illinois) doubled, scoring Cam Redding (Saint Louis) to put the Kingfish up 5-4. Traverse City was unable to respond in the bottom half as Kenosha took the series opener.
On the mound, Kingfish starter Brock Weirather (Richmond) threw five innings allowing three runs, all of them earned. Kais came on in relief, throwing 2.2 innings of shutout ball allowing two hits. Lastly, Nick Meyer (Dayton) threw the ninth and tenth picking up the win.
Kenosha will take on Traverse City tomorrow, Saturday, July 3rd at 7:05 p.m EDT in the series finale.
