Idaho Steelheads News Release
Fresno, California - Steelheads defenseman Tyler Kindle tallied two goals as the Steelheads edged the Fresno Falcons, 3-1, at the SaveMart Center in Fresno on Tuesday night.
The Steelheads (27-16-6) have now taken all three games from the Falcons (29-9-10) in their building this year, while improving their season series mark against Fresno to 4-2-0.
The only goal in the first period came off the stick of Kindle. Kindle's fifth marker of the season and first of the night came at 3:15 of the opening frame, and put the Steelheads in front, 1-0. Winger Paul Caponigri rushed into the Falcons zone along the right wing side and stopped when he crossed the blue line. Caponigri then feathered a pass to the side of the Falcons' net, where Kindle settled it down on the backhand and lifted the puck over Jamie Holden (22 saves). Center David Bararuk got an assist as well.
Steelheads captain D'Arcy McConvey made it 2-0 with a power play goal at 3:56 of the middle frame. Holden, who lost his stick while stopping Bararuk's initial shot from the right circles, couldn't recover to stop McConvey's rebound opportunity. Marty Flichel also drew an assist; his 15th power play helper of the season. McConvey's 21st of the year, turned out to be the game-winner.
J.F. Plourde cut the Falcons deficit to one with an even-strength goal at 9:12 of the second period. Falcons forward Brett Hammond was able to chip the puck out of the Steelheads' zone to the speedy Plourde, who raced through center. Plourde streaked into the Steelheads zone on the left wing side and flipped a backhander over goaltender Matt Yeats (31 saves).
Late in the second period, Kindle's second goal of the evening made the score 3-1. After hitting the far post on his first chance, Flichel sent another pass to Kindle who ripped the puck past Holden with just 1:51 remaining in the period.
The shots were 25-19 in favor of the Falcons at the second intermission, yet they trailed 3-1.
There was no scoring in the third period. With the victory, the Steelheads earned their 15th win away from home, while also picking up their 11th win against Pacific Division opponents. The Falcons out-shot the Steelheads 33-25 for the match, as the visitors improved to 6-6-2 when being out-shot. Yeats is now 15-5-3, while Holden falls to 11-3-2.
The Steelheads continue their six-game road swing on Friday, February 17, as they visit the Bakersfield Condors. The puck drops at 8:10 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1350 AM, "The Ticket," beginning approximately 20 minutes before the drop of the puck. For tickets, call 208-331-TIXS.
