Lance Monych Assigned to Thunder

STOCKTON, Calif. * Right wing Lance Monych has been assigned to the Stockton Thunder from the San Antonio Rampage, Thunder head coach Chris Cichocki announced today.

"Lance will provide a much-needed offensive lift to our lineup," said Cichocki. "I look for him to have plenty of opportunities to play a significant scoring role."

Monych, 21, comes to the Thunder after appearing in 36 games for the San Antonio Rampage, Stockton's American Hockey League affiliate. A fourth round draft pick of the Phoenix Coyotes in 2002, Monych built a storied junior career with the Brandon Wheat Kings (WHL), posting 236 career points (110g-126a) in 319 career games through 2004-05.

He guided the Wheat Kings to a 2005 WHL Eastern Conference Championship, while finishing fourth on Brandon in scoring (66 points) and third in goals (30) in 64 games during the 2004-05 campaign.

Monych, a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, also appeared in a three-game stint with the Central Hockey League's Laredo Bucks during 2005-06, notching four goals.

The Thunder also announced forward John Longo has been placed on the seven-day injured reserve list with a concussion, retroactive to February 14.
