Ice Pilots Come Close in Charlotte

Pensacola, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots kept Charlotte on their toes in a close race to the end in front of 3,590 Checker fans at the St. Lawrence Homes Ice Rink in Charlotte, NC last night.

Pensacola scored two power play goals in the third period to bring the game to Ice Pilots 4 - Charlotte 5 but the Pilots couldn't get another shot in as the horn rang the end of the game.

Mark Rooneem scored his sixth goal of the season to start off the Ice Pilots with Dallas Steward and Nick Lindberg with the assists. Second period Pete Gardiner scored his seventh goal with Chris Heid on the assist. This brought the game to Charlotte 4, Ice Pilots 2.

Third period the Ice Pilots charged back with Chris Heid and Nate Metcalf both scoring goals with assists by Dallas Steward, Brendan Cook and Adam Courchaine bringing it to a close Ice Pilots 4, Charlotte 5 game.

The final score was Ice Pilots 4 Charlotte 6. David Cann (PEN) stopped 36 shots while Jeff Glass (CHA) was the winning goalie making 21 saves.

The next Ice Pilots home game will be Tuesday, February 21 vs. the Augusta Lynx at 7:05 PM. It's Mardi Gras night in the Hangar as the Ice Pilots take the ice in specialty Mardi Gras jerseys along with a special Mardi Gras parade during 1st intermission.
