ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (30-15-3) used three power play goals and four assists from Dan Sisca to help collect a 6-4 win over the Greenville Grrrowl (28-17-2) on Wednesday night at Germain Arena.
The Everblades began by scoring the first three goals of the contest before Greenville mounted a comeback. Steve Saviano opened the scoring notching his 12th goal of the year at 8:56 of the first period to get Florida on the board. Phil Aucoin extended the Everblades lead to 2-0 with a 5-on-3 power play goal with 3:34 remaining in the opening period.
In the second period Kevin Bergin beat Greenville goaltender Cam Ellsworth from the doorstep with a power play tally just 2:12 into the frame to open the three-goal lead. Greenville however responded by scoring the next two goals to grab the momentum and trim Florida's lead to one heading into the third period.
Daryl Pierce notched Greenville's first goal at the 6:58 mark of the period, and Tim Sestito scored his 17th goal of the season after beating Florida goalie Kevin Nastiuk on a shorthanded breakaway. The shorthanded goal was the fifth scored by the Grrrowl this season, and the ninth allowed by the Everblades.
Carrying a one-goal lead into the final period, the Everblades jumped to a 5-2 advantage with a pair of quick goals midway through the period. Ernie Hartlieb notched his first goal since January 3 and his 17th overall at 12:25, then Reggie Berg tallied Florida's third power play goal of the contest 1:18 later.
Duncan Dalmao trimmed the Everblades lead to 5-3 with 3:05 remaining in regulation, but Berg sealed the win with an empty net goal at 18:57. Greenville did manage one final goal when John Snowden deflected a shot past Nastiuk with 44 seconds remaining.
Nastiuk picked up the win by stopping 38 shots to raise his record to 4-1-1. Ellsworth saw his three-game winning streak come to an end allowing five goals on 27 shots to fall to 7-4-1.
On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 3-for-6, while the Grrrowl closed out game going 0-for-4. With the win, the Everblades climbed to 2-2-0 vs. Greenville this season.
The Everblades return to action on Friday, February 17 when they take on the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:35 p.m. from The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, GA.
