West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - For the third straight week, a West Michigan Whitecap was named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week. LHP Jon Kibler wins the award for the week of May 12-18 after two solid road starts last week.

Kibler started last Tuesday in Fort Wayne and limited the Wizards to one unearned run through 7.0 innings in an 11-3 Whitecaps victory. The former Michigan State product followed it up with a complete game over the Lugnuts in his first start in Lansing since pitching for the Spartans. Kibler allowed just two hits and two runs (one earned) through 9.0 innings while striking out eight batters.

The southpaw from Freeland, Md., went 2-0 with a 0.56 ERA in 16.0 innings last week and is 4-1 with a 2.06 ERA with 40 strikeouts to nine walks overall this season.

Selected by the Tigers in the 30th round of the 2007 draft, Kibler went a combined 3-2 with 2.41 ERA in nine games (seven starts) between the Gulf Coast League Tigers and short-season Oneonta.

This was the third consecutive Whitecap to be named MWL Player of the Week award with RHP Alfredo Figaro winning the award on May 5 and LHP Ramon Garcia on May 12. The streak marks just the second time the Whitecaps have won the Midwest League award three straight weeks dating back to 2000 when Tommy Marx, Calvin Chipperfield, Cody Ross and Neil Jenkins all won the award consecutively in June.
