
Bees Lose Opener To Kane County

Burlington, IA (May 19, 2008) - The Burlington Bees opened a five-game series with the Kane County Cougars Monday night and lost the series opener 7-3. The Bees were not put down in order in a single inning and left 12 runners on base in the contest.
The Bees actually got on the scoreboard first against Kane County Starter Craig Italiano. In the second inning, Jamar Walton reached on an error and then scored on a Kyle Martin double. The Bees held on to the lead until the top of the fourth inning.
In the fourth, the Cougars began a run of three consecutive innings scoring multiple runs. They scored three in the fourth and two in both the fifth and sixth and never really looked back after that.
The Bees were able to score two runs before the game was ended in the top of the ninth due to rain. In the seventh inning, Walton hit a two-out double and then scored on Martin's second double of the day. In the eighth inning, Nick Doscher walked and scored on a David Lough double.
The game was delayed with one out in the top of the ninth due to rain. After a 51 minute delay, the game was called.
Adrian Ortiz, Lough and Martin all had two hits on the day. Danny Duffy, who made his debut with the Bees, took the loss after pitching 3.2 innings allowing three runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
The Bees and Kane County will play a doubleheader on Tuesday. Eduardo Paulino and Edward Cegarra are the scheduled starters for the Bees. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 6:00 at Community Field. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com.
