Kane County Cougars News Release
BURLINGTON, Iowa - Craig Italiano won his fourth straight game and sixth overall Monday night, Todd Johnson had two RBIs and Jonathan Johnston knocked out three hits as the Kane County Cougars pounded the Burlington Bees, 7-3, in a rain-shortened affair at Community Field.
Italiano (6-0) gave up just one unearned over five innings, yielded five hits, walked five and struck out five. He now has allowed just one earned run in his last eight appearances, a 41-inning span during which he's ceded 23 hits and fanned 52.. Brad Hertzler gave up one run in two innings of relief, and Leonardo Espinal allowed one in his inning.
The Cougars trailed, 1-0, when they tied it and took the lead permanently in the fourth. Johnson, Carlos Arrieche and Michael Lissman each had one RBI during the three-run frame. Then Johnson doubled home Corey Brown in the fifth and scored on an error for a 5-1 score. Matt Ray scored on an error in the sixth, and Michael Lissman scampered home on a wild pitch to round out the Cougars' offensive output. The game went into a rain delay in the top of the ninth with the Cougars batting and never resumed.
The Cougars (27-14) and Bees (16-26) play again Tuesday at 6 CT with a doubleheader to make up a rainout from April 10. Jamie Richmond (4-2, 3.07) will pitch Game 1 for the Cougars, and Brent Lysander, called up Monday from extended spring training, will make his '08 debut in Game 2.
